About the event
Having had many a memorable outing on the foreshore with Thames Discovery Programme, we’ve organised an unusual event for CBA London this autumn that should be especially interesting.
This time we’re visiting Deptford, a new area for us, with TDP’s Senior Community Archaeologist Will Rathouse. We’ll explore the foreshore alongside this key area in the development of Britain’s navy and London itself. The walk includes details of the Royal Navy shipyard founded by Henry VIII and how its role in shipbuilding until the reign of Queen Victoria. We’ll also find out about the site’s subsequent role in the second World War and industrial disputes of the 1990s.
As usual, we’ll mull over all we’ve seen in a local pub – which Will notes is very good – afterwards.
Details can be found on the Eventbrite booking page here:
Booking will open on Tuesday 11th October – it will be open for CBA London members only for the first week or so, after which we’ll open to the public if any tickets remain.
We hope you can join us.
If you have any questions, you can contact Becky Wallower from 11th October onwards: becky.wallower@dial.pipex.com.
